Maria Dek lives in the forest. She knows it very well and knows best that the forest is a wonderful resource in many respects.

In this personal book she tries to convince us that forests are places with the potential to be amazing playgrounds. You can be a tracker (by following animal footprints), a constructor (by building shelters), a collector (by finding birds’ feathers and other treasures), or a scientist learning about the habits of the forest’s residents. Forests also offer many stimuli for our senses: the greenery soothes the eyes, the sounds of nature become amazing concerts, and forests smell beautiful. This picture book is at the same time a story about scale and points of view. A forest seen from above and from a distance is a rhythmic pattern of tree shapes on the white of the page, a forest seen from inside is a larger number of details and a whole palette of green. The silhouette of a fox is an explosion on the page, and an acorn, the wing of a butterfly, an ant or a leaf become its protagonists.
