It tells the story of a young boy who desperately wants to save his sister from an illness. He embarks on a voyage to find a golden apple that is supposed to save her. Along the way, he must tackle the River of Sadness, the Forest of Fury and the Abyss of Despair. He must also deal with the emotions that come up: rage, anger, fear, joy and helplessness. His sister also has a special gift: weaving. She is able to weave a golden cloud of light and a bridge out of moonlight to help her brother get through the harshest moments of his travels. Strengthened by the golden apple that he victoriously brings back to her, she reveals her secret: she wants to weave a garment for the entire sky, filling it with clouds of every colour. Once her brother is safe, she goes off to the Palace of the Sun to fulfil her dreams. Katarzyna Jackowska-Enemuo wrote this book after the death of her daughter as a means of helping others work through the painful loss of a loved one. It shows how adults can help young people work through the trauma and better understand their emotions in such situations, while nurturing their sense of security in the face of uncertainty and fear. Marianna Sztyma’s dreamy illustrations heighten the author’s gentle and universal approach to this complex topic.
