Maria, Lena and Miłosz are neighbours in a gated suburban community. They are eighth graders at a fancy private school and attend countless extracurricular activities. And once a week, Maria attends a therapy session. They worry about final exams and getting into a good secondary school, so that they can meet their parents’ expectations. They get extra points for volunteering and that is how the three of them end up at ‘Quiet Haven’, a home for senior citizens. Their conversations with residents Jarmina, Elodia and Bertram shift their perspectives and priorities dynamically. The author takes an unabashed look at the privileged world of society and today questions whether there is enough achievement and acquisition to fill in the gaps left behind by loneliness and despair. And whether it is worth accepting such a life just to keep up appearances.
