A sense of humour is a great gift, but not everybody knows how to use it properly.
The eponymous Lynx the Joker is a real jester, prankster and kidder, who goes all out to try to amuse his friends in the forest. But Lynx’s jokes are out of place, don’t amuse his friends, but actually upset them, and even expose them to danger. The witty Lynx is so focussed on his antics he doesn’t notice their consequences. In her original book Nika Jaworowska-Duchlińska deals with the important topic of sense of humour and the vital role it plays in our lives. We all like to laugh, because laughter has a therapeutic value, heals emotions and restores cheerfulness. But it must be remembered that laughing at others or at their expense isn’t OK. The author shows us the boundaries of a good joke, which can easily be overstepped, risking a loss of trust and friends. It’s an important lesson not only for children, but also a reminder to older readers that we should always take other people’s feelings into consideration.
