This illustrated book tackles the complex and sensitive topic of illness in a thoughtful way that is open and accessible to young people.

It is the fruit of an intensive collaboration between patients, psychologists and doctors, with content based on interviews and conversations that the author carried out with young cancer patients. The comic-style format of the book is one of the elements that helps turn the topic on its head, allowing the reader to immerse themselves in the story and the difficult emotions that come along with an unexpected diagnosis — through the combination of text and images. Step by step, Adele learns about the stages of her illness and the steps she will take to get better. Her elderly companion in the book gives her support and the strength to fight against the illness. The book also reveals the bonds children form with other young patients in the hospital ward, finding ways to laugh and have fun, even though there are sad moments along the way. This valuable book helps people of all ages break the taboos of illness and to better understand the emotions surrounding sickness and the struggle to get better. All proceeds from the book are donated to cancer patients and their families.
