In this picture book there is everything that children are fond of: likeable animal protagonists: a monkey, a fox, a lion, a koala bear, a tortoise, an armadillo, a prawn and many others.
There’s a serious commotion – a thief steals a watch, and then a bicycle, and later even makes a mess and breaks several rules. There’s also a happy ending. The thief’s flight is the story’s pivotal moment. The dynamics of the overarching chase manifest in vehicles tipping over in pursuit and the silhouettes of people running after. There’s the police and the fire brigade. You can almost hear the sirens! A bus, a helicopter, and even a handcar join in the chase. The rhyming, funny and equally dynamic text – with loads of exclamation marks in it – encourages readers to read it aloud or play the roles of the various characters. The illustrations, clearly marked with thick outlines, form a multi-coloured frieze moving through the pages of the book.
