Guzikożerca na tropie słów

Olga Ptak’s moving story about a boy with autism tries to show the everyday difficulty of facing the world and the great need for understanding and sensitivity from other people. On the new version of the cover we see the protagonist galloping, briskly travelling through the world, and metaphorically – wading through a thicket of the words surrounding him which can’t always be understood. Dominika Czerniak-Chojnacka, using letters cut out of old newspapers which she has then put together in graphic form, has designed an intriguing black, white and red double-page spreads with typographical compositions which are only apparently random. The letters set one after another spell out the sentence: “LEON HAS A FRIEND”. It’s a story that encourages us to reflect on the subject of tolerance, openness, and sensitivity not only with regard to disability, but to otherness in the widest possible sense.
