“Run away from here! Search for the sun and for life,” said her dying mother to her, looking through the window. Adina went over to the “green” side, where the sky, trees, birds and people seemed to belong to a parallel world. Hungry for life, full of hope, heroic naivety, but also fear and lack of understanding, the little girl takes us with her on her journey. With her we travel through a town, the countryside, orchards and forests. We meet people, we catch the warmth of the sun and the coldness of the earth, we hide, we freeze and we eat crumbs of bread. Adina and the Windows is an emotional, poetic and metaphorical tale of the lust for life from the perspective of a child of war. Along with the book’s protagonist we look at the world through successive windows, behind which at times colourful life is waiting and others grey death. The recollections of the experience of suffering, but also of being rescued expressed in words, are complemented by pictures that arrest time, immerse us in a child’s imagination and give hope that the bad times will pass.
