On the one hand, the story of a search for Dad, an entomologist, who has been shrunk to microscopic size and kidnapped by a gang of cockroaches, is full of situational and linguistic jokes worthy of the best comedy. On the other hand, the avalanche of gags does not obscure the book’s vision of intergenerational and interspecies bonds. It is not only the adults who have agency here, but also the children and animals, who are treated seriously by the head of the family (the mum, contrary to gender stereotypes), and at the same time with humour and tenderness. It was a brilliant idea to dress this story in a robe of prose with comic book elements – the textual layer penned by Justyna Bednarek and the graphics by Bartek Brosz work together beautifully, creating a one-of-a-kind comedy of errors suitable for children.
