PROFILE

A Doctor at the University of Warsaw, Poland. Currently I’m the Head of the Department of Polish Studies, where I teach students Polish language, culture and literature.

My research interests involve: comparative linguistics, modern Polish poetry and literary translation. In the 25 years since being awarded a PhD from the University of Warsaw, I have written 60 articles on the subject of Polish literature and culture, both in Polish and in Korean. I have translated over 40 Polish books into Korean, including Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz, Solaris by Stanisław Lem, an anthology of Wisława Szymborska’s poetry, Flights by Olga Tokarczuk etc.

My translation work is also accompanied by intense activity to popularize Polish literature – I have delivered over 100 lectures on Polish literature in libraries, bookshops and other cultural institutions in Korea, to promote Polish literature among Korean readers.

In 2014, I was awarded the Silver Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture for my merits in translating Polish literature. In 2024, I was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
