I am a journalist, columnist and literary translator, born in 1955 in Kraków and for many years resident in Munich. I collaborate with numerous German publishers and media — currently mainly with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) and Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ), formerly with Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), Die ZEIT, FOCUS and the broadcasters BR, SWR, DLF and WDR. In my journalistic work I focus primarily on Polish literature, culture and history. After studying German studies in Kraków and Munich I worked, among other positions, as a lecturer in Polish at Ludwig Maximilians Universität München and in a special role at the Goethe Institut in Warsaw. From 1987–1991 and in 1997/98 I was an editor of Kindlers Neues Literaturlexikon. I have written numerous articles on Polish writers for that lexicon and other collective works.
