She was born and grew up in Bratislava, then Czechoslovakia. After studying in Germany she settled in the UK, working for Amnesty International and Save the Children. Since 2008 she has been working as a freelance translator of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books from and into Slovak, as well as from Czech and Polish (translating into English jointly with her husband Peter Sherwood). An active promoter of Slovak literature, she curates the Slovak List for Seagull Books, and co-curates the website SlovakLiterature.com. She lives in London.
