Graduate of the Post-Secondary Medical College in Kraków. Initially he worked as a hygiene instructor at a sanitary-epidemiological station in Tarnów, then undertook various work at different companies in Lesser Poland: in procurement, at a bakery, as a farm labourer, construction worker and warehouseman. He has lived for his whole life in Ciężkowice.
In the years 1987-88 he published in the magazine “Twórczość”. He debuted as a prose writer in 1996 with a short story collection entitled “Delectatio morosa”. Subsequent books brought him many awards and nominations. He was the winner of a competition organised by “Nowy Nurt” and the publisher Wydawnictwo Kurpisz, and the National Competition of the Zielona Sowa Publishing House. He was nominated for the Gdynia Literary Prize three times: in 2015 for the novel “To co obok” (What is Close), in 2018 for the novel “Echo słońca” (The Echo of the Sun) and in 2021 for the book “Pomarli” (The Dead), for which he received the first prize. This same book also brought him a nomination for the Nike Literary Award in the same year.
