Piotr Janicki

(b. 1974) – poet, editor and musician.

He has published the poetry collections “Nadal aksamit” (Still Velvet, 2006), “Wyrazy uznania” (Compliments, 2014), “13 sztuk” (13 plays, 2016), “psia książka” (dog book, 2018), the long poem “Spis treści” (Contents, co-written with Adam Kaczanowski, 2020), “Ćwiczenia muzyczne albo księga muz napisane przeze mnie na gruzach cesarstwa Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki Płn.” (Music Exercises or the Book of Muses Written by Me on the Rubble of the Empire of the United States of America, 2021) and “Boży rok” (All Year Long, 2024), as well as the self-edited selection “TO JAK I NIC RIP” (ION IT JACK RIP, 2024). Compliments received the Gdynia Literary Prize (2015). 13 Plays, a collection of verse one-act plays, was nominated for the Silesius Poetry Award (2017). Dog book (officially: author and title unknown) brought him the Wiesław Kazanecki Literary Award of the Białystok City Mayor and a nomination for the Wisława Szymborska Award (both in 2019). In 2021 he received the Wiesław Kazanecki Literary Award of the Białystok City Mayor again, for Contents (together with Adam Kaczanowski).

Co-founder and, from 2005 to 2010, editor of the legendary poetry zine www.cycgada.art.pl. Since 2021 he has been the editor of “Epea”, an experimental journal about literature and art published by Książnica Podlaska im. Łukasza Górnickiego (Łukasz Górnicki Podlasie Library) in Białystok. Co-author, with Bartek Kalinka, of the album Boży rok (2007). Many critics consider Piotr Janicki’s work to be one of the most interesting oeuvres in contemporary Polish poetry. His poems have been translated into English, and included in many anthologies.
