Maciej Robert

1. 1977) – poet, essayist, literary and film critic, journalist.

Holds a doctorate in humanities, teaches at the Screenwriting Faculty of the Łódź Film School, among others. He has published the poetry collections “Pora deszczu” (The Rainy Season, 2003), “Puste pola” (Empty Fields, 2008), “Collegium Anatomicum” (2011), “Księga meldunkowa” (The Register, 2014), “Nautilus” (2016), “Demologos” (2017), “Superorganizm” (Superorganism, 2019), “Śnieg. Elegie przedmiejskie” (Snow. Suburban Elegies, 2022), “Mniejsza o ludzi” (Never Mind the People, 2025), as well as “Skontrum, wybór wierszy z lat 2003–2023” (Inventory. Selected Poems from the Years 2003-2023) edited by Jakub Skurtys, and two essay collections: “Perełki i skowronki. Adaptacje filmowe prozy Bohumila Hrabala” (Pearls and Larks. Screen Adaptations of Bohumil Hrabal’s Prose, 2014) and “Rzeki, których nie ma” (Nonexistent Rivers, 2023). In 2011 he was awarded the Polish Book Publishers’ Association Prize. His volume The Register was nominated for the Wisława Szymborska Award (2015). 2020 brought him a nomination for the international Václav Burian Prize, awarded to artists who contribute to the development of democratic dialogue in the area between the Elbe and the Dnieper. In 2013, he received the Jerzy Katarasiński Golden Quill Award for his work as a journalist. His essay collection Nonexistent Rivers was shortlisted for the Grand Press Award for Reportage Book of the Year in 2023. In the years 2012–2017 he ran “Czytam centralnie”, a blog about Central European literature. From 2013 to 2022 he was the secretary, and later juror for the Julian Tuwim Literary Award, and since 2025 he has been a chapter member of the Angelus Central European Literature Award. In 2023 he became the director of Dom Literatury (House of Literature) in Łódź.

His poems have been translated into Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, English, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, German, Serbian, Spanish and Ukrainian, and included in many anthologies.
