Katarzyna Wasilkowska

(b. 1970) – writer, author of books for children and young adults, one of the most acclaimed creators in the genre.

She debuted with the novel “Jowanka i gang spod Gilotyny” (Jowanka and the Guillotine Gang, 2015). She is the laureate of the “Gulliver in Brobdingnag” Prize (2016) awarded by the quarterly “Gulliver”. Her novel for teenagers, “Kobra” (Cobra) received a distinction of the Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award (2019); the novel “Świat Mundka” (Mundek’s World, illustrated by Robert Konrad) received a distinction in the Book of the Year competition of the Polish section of IBBY (2020) and a nomination in the inaugural Hestia’s Literary Journey competition (2021). The short story collection “Kilka niedużych historii” (A Few Smallish Stories, illustrated by Joanna Rusinek) she received the Grand Prix in the Child-Friendly World competition organised by Komitet Ochrony Praw Dziecka (Children’s Rights Protection Committee in 2022. The book “Już, już!” (Just Coming!, illustrated by Robert Konrad) received the Koziołek (Billy-Goat) Grand Prix and the Readers’ Award as part of the Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award, was nominated for the Ferdynand the Great Award and in the Hestia’s Literary Journey competition (all in 2022). “Witajcie w Chudegnatach” (Welcome to Thinbonetown) brought her the second prize in the Astrid Lindgren Literary Competition (2023) in the “novel for children between 6 and 9” category. That novel (illustrated by Anna Oparkowska) was also nominated in the Book of the Year competition of the Polish section of IBBY (2024). In 2025 the writer received two important awards: the Grand Prix at the Child-Friendly World competition for “Wielki Bieg Gwiazdkowy” (The Great Christmas Run, illustrated by Agnieszka Sozańska) and the Koziołek (Billy-Goat) Grand Prix of the Kornel Makuszyński Literary Award for the novel Welcome to Thinbonetown. Katarzyna Wasilkowska has been a chapter member of the Hestia’s Literary Journey competition since 2023.
