Juliusz Gabryel
(1979–2018) – poet and editor.
During his life, he published three poetry collections: “Hemoglobina” (Haemoglobin, 2003), “Laboratoria” (Laboratories, 2006) and “Płyn Lugola” (Lugol’s Iodine, 2016). His posthumous publications were “Lustrzane fikcje” (Mirror Fictions, 2018), a volume which the author himself had prepared for print, and “Element piąty. Wiersze wybrane” (The Fifth Element. Selected Poems, 2024), edited by Sławomir Kuźnicki. Juliusz Gabryel lived in Kluczbork and was an honorary member of the Living Poets Society in Brzeg. In the years 2010 to 2012 he was the poetry editor at “Red.” quarterly, and wrote for the art zine “BregArt”. His poems, exploring issues of illness, faith and death, are characterised by a tenebrist imagination and elaborate lyrical imagery; they have been translated into German and Croatian.
