Hanna Koschembahr-Łyskowska
(b. 1951) – a historian and painter.
She graduated in history from the University of Toruń, and then in painting from the School of Visual Arts in Gdańsk. As a painter, she has taken part in collective and solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Her passion for horses often can be seen in her works.
In her children’s book ‘Zielone rękawiczki’ (The Green Gloves), Koschembahr-Łyskowska draws from motifs associated with childhood, family and history, creating a tale that is both instructive and full of warmth. She ably guides young readers through a world full of fantasy, magic and nostalgia. The style of her narrative is accessible, but not too naive, which means she speaks to both children and adults. She often draws from the past, family memories and the child’s imagination (her works have ties to the past, both personal and steeped in cultural tradition). This book was nominated by readers in the 11th edition of the City of Warsaw Literary Award.
