(b. 1962) – poet, visual artist, playwright, prose writer, participant of music projects.

One of the most original poetic voices in contemporary Poland, part of the “brulion” milieu. He is the author of over fifty books in total, including poetry, literary sketches, plays and visual poetry. While he’s one of the most internationally recognised living Polish poets, he has only just begun to receive more widespread and in-depth attention from Polish critics and popularity among young creators. Wróblewski spent his youth in Warsaw, involved in the hippie and punk movements. In 1985 he left for Copenhagen, where he was offered political asylum. He published his first poems in 1987 in underground cultural journals: “Wezwanie” in Warsaw and “Obecność” in Wrocław. In 1990 he received a distinction in the Maria Magdalena Morawska Competition for Best Poetry Chapbook organised by “brulion” and joined the poetry circle focused around that journal. This resulted in his book debut, “Ciamkowatość życia” (The Slurpability of Life, 1992) in the first purple series published by “brulion”. The volume “Planety” (Planets, 1994) was published in the so-called “colourful” series by “brulion”. In the course of his collaboration with the journal, he started long-term artistic friendships, including with Krzysztof Jaworski and Wojciech Wilczyk, with whom he shared creative undertakings in later years. Together with Wilczyk he published a book of photography and poetry, Blue Pueblo (2015); the project also involved an exhibition shown at the BWA Gallery in Zielona Góra and the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw.

Wróblewski’s main musical ventures as a vocalist and lyricist are the band SLURP, formed in Copenhagen in the mid-1990s with Bosnian musician Amir Hadžiahmetović and Sławek Słociński (Brygada Kryzys, Madame), and the duet Piano & Poetry with pianist Olga Megieres, initiated in 2004. Wróblewski also performed with many other musicians from Denmark’s alternative and jazz scenes. In Poland, together with Bobi Peru, the poet released the album PROJEKT1 (Warsaw: Ars Mundi, 2006). With Paweł Kelner Rozwadowski, he performed in a set of poetry and music at venues including the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

Grzegorz Wróblewski’s visual works (paintings, installations, asemic writing) have been exhibited at galleries in Denmark, Great Britain, Germany and Poland; the artist also published them as artbooks.
