Ewa Sonnenberg

(b. 1967) – poet, prose writer, essayist, literary magazine editor, pianist.

She has published the poetry collections “Hazard” (Gambling, 1995), “Kraina tysiąca notesów. Zwierzenia Lindsaya Kempa” (The Land of a Thousand Notebooks. The Confessions of Lindsay Kemp, 1997), “Planeta” (The Planet, 1997), “Smycz” (The Leash, 2000), “Płonący tramwaj” (The Burning Tram, 2001), “Lekcja zachwytu” (A Lesson of Delight, 2005), “Encyklopedia szaleńca” (The Encyclopaedia of a Madman, 2006), the bilingual volume “pisane na piasku / written on sand” (2007), “Rok Ognistego Smoka” (The Year of the Fire Dragon, 2009), “Hologramy” (Holograms, 2015), “Wiersze dla jednego człowieka” (Poems for One Person, 2017), “Schizofrenia & Company” (Schizophrenia & Company, 2018), as well as “Wiersze zebrane” (Collected Poems, 2014), two volumes of prose miniatures – “Paź królowej. Bajka dla zakochanych” (The Swallowtail. A Fairytale for People in Love, 2006) and “Obca” (The Stranger, 2015), as well as the essay collection “Moi papierowi kochankowie” (My Paper Lovers, 2017). In 1994 she received the Klemens Janicki Award for Young Writers. Gambling was awarded the Georg Trakl Literary Award in 1996. In 1998 Sonnenberg was awarded a scholarship by the Independent Culture Foundation in Paris. In 2012 she also won the lifetime Four Columns Literary Award. From 1994 to 1995 she worked with the magazine “Nowy Nurt”, was part of the editorial team of the bimonthly journal “Studium” from 1995 to 2008, and co-edited the magazine “Rita Baum” from 1998 to 2008. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Swedish, Turkish, Russian, Hungarian, Slovene, Slovak, Czech, Serbian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Italian, and Ukrainian. They have also been included in many anthologies.
