Translator’s Collegium

Translators are our greatest allies in the world of literature – without their work, Polish literature would remain unknown to foreign readers. In this residency programme, we offer the conditions to undertake translation work in peace, to search through libraries, and to meet authors and experts. We invite you for a one-month stay in Cracow (since 2005) or in Warsaw (since 2019).

Application deadline: call for the next edition of the residency next year.

How to apply?

We encourage both translators with long résumés and those only starting their adventure with Polish literature to apply. What do we offer?

  • a month’s free lodging in Cracow or Warsaw;
  • return of the travel costs;
  • pocket money amounting to 100 PLN a day;
  • help in organising meetings with publishers and/or writers;
  • residents may also be invited to give guest lectures at schools, in libraries, or other cultural institutes.

Required documents: application form, list of published translations, and, for emerging translators, a CV and recommendations.  Applications should be e-mailed to: collegium@bookinstitute.pl. Only applications tied to work on a particular translation(s), and not research or academic projects, will be considered. Twenty-four months must elapse between the end of one residency and the start of the next.  Application form and all the other documents can be found below.
